Tias City Council has received the authorization of the Coastal Canaries to convert Puerto del Carmen beaches accessible. Mayor Pancho Hernandez, has launched a plan for Puerto del Carmen as a tourist area without architectural barriers on roads and public spaces and this plan will also come to the beaches with a significant investment in construction and endowments.
After the required authorization from the Coastal Authority, the City of Tias will proceed in the coming weeks to execute several works of architectural barriers on the main roads to the beaches of Puerto del Carmen. The plan will be initiated on the main beach of Puerto del Carmen, the most extensive and currently having major gaps between the Avenida de las Playas and the bathing area and sand.
The Department of Environment, Beaches, Fishing, Housing and Heritage, under the direction of Councilwoman Yolanda Garcia, has a game plan from the tourism infrastructure of Lanzarote used to finance these improvements. The project will be bid in the next few weeks, with a near € 300,000 investment.
As is known, Puerto del Carmen in the only tourist area in the Canary Islands with a coastline of beaches, in its entirety and also is awarded 4 blue flags. The beaches of Matagorda, Pocillos, Playa Chica or Stack Barilla, Playa Grande have the highest distinction awards by the FEE Foundation Europe for quality and service on the beaches, proudly owned by the current government of Tias.
