In total, 221,599 international passengers arrived in Lanzarote during the month, 2,377 fewer than in September last year, a drop of 1.06%.
The British still make up the lion's share. There were 135,013 arrivals from the UK, around 60% of all overseas visitors, although that was 1.5% down on last year. Ireland, the island's second biggest market, fell by 2.8% to 28,837, and Germany by 2% to 14,323.
France now sits just behind Germany with 14,254 arrivals, and Italy reached 7,024, up from 5,305 a year ago. Switzerland and Poland also grew, while the Netherlands and Belgium slipped a little.
The hotels did not feel the difference. ISTAC, the Canary Islands statistics institute, recorded occupancy of 86.7% in Lanzarote in September, the highest in the archipelago, with an average room rate of €131 a night.
With winter flights starting at the end of October, the island is heading into its busiest season for British holidaymakers. For ideas on how to spend your time here, see our things to do in Lanzarote page, or plan a trip with the excursions in Lanzarote on offer.
