The filming of the tank and stage work is being done at Leavesden Studios in the UK, but many of the ocean-set scenes were filmed on the islands of La Gomera and Lanzarote of the Canaries featuring their beautiful coastline.
The movie is based on the 1820 event, where a London based whaling ship (Do you know what that is? It is a ship designed and specialized for whaling i.e., the catching and/or processing of whales, it has a steam or diesel-driven vessel with a harpoon gun mounted at its bow) with 20 strong crew is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding them at sea in three tiny whaleboats in the South Pacific, thousands of miles from home, only eight members managed to survive starvation, disease and dehydration to be rescued after 90 days.
The local Lanzarote fans were thrilled to see the charismatic Chris Hemsworth and thronged him for autographs and photographs, which he was more than happy to give and pose for despite the long and exhausting shooting days at the sea. We wish the crew the very best and everyone in Lanzarote are eagerly waiting to see Lanzarote in the movie!!!!!
