A Ryanair flight from Dublin, FR5910, had landed on runway 03 and was still rolling out towards exit E2. Before it had cleared, an Iberia Express flight to Madrid, IB1502, moved onto the runway at exit E1 to line up for take-off in the opposite direction. Lanzarote has a single runway, so both aircraft were on the same strip of tarmac, and a third plane on approach had to wait.
The moment was caught by the Lanzarote airport webcam that streams the runway on YouTube. Aena, which runs the airport, confirmed the incident, and Ryanair said its flight landed normally following air traffic control's instructions. No one was hurt, there was no collision, and flights carried on as normal.
Separately, the USCA union has pointed out that the control tower has 14 air traffic controllers, against 22 positions in the current service tender. That issue is not part of AESA's investigation.
If you are flying out this week, there is no change to how the airport is operating, but check your flight status with your airline before you set off from Playa Blanca or the other resorts.
