The rollout covers easyJet's A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft and is expected to be complete by early 2028. The older A319s are being phased out and will not be fitted. Aircraft will be connected one by one, so for a while it will depend on which plane you get. easyJet has not yet said which routes will be first, or whether passengers will pay for the service.
Once on board, you will be able to use your own phone, tablet or laptop to stream, game, browse or catch up on work. The system will also carry live flight information and details of your destination, from local transport to the weather forecast for Lanzarote, and easyJet plans to let passengers order food and drinks from their seat.
It is a change of direction for the airline, which said earlier this year that satellite wi-fi did not yet make financial sense. Wizz Air has since committed to Starlink from 2027, while Ryanair and Jet2 still have no wi-fi on board.
For visitors to the island the timing is welcome. A flight from the UK to Lanzarote takes around four hours, long enough for an internet connection to make a real difference, and easyJet is one of the main airlines serving the island. Until the work is finished, a downloaded series is still the safest bet.
