Everyone is urged to follow the advice of self-protection by wind risk in the islands of Tenerife and La Palma.

According to the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Sustainability and Security of the Canarian Government, through the Directorate General of Security and Emergency, declared a state of alert for winds in Tenerife and La Palma from 00:00 hours on Friday, October 16th 2016.

This decision was taken considering the predictions of the AEMET (Meteorological Agency), which issued the Orange Notice, and under the Civil Protection Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).

The Directorate General of Security and Emergency of the Canary Government has urged the people to follow the advice of self-protection and to take the necessary preventive measures and recommendations for risk of winds:

- Avoid walking through gardens or wooded areas

- Walk away from walls, old houses, scaffolding, advertising fences and electricity poles.

- Avoid the vicinity of the coast, like swimming, and any other water activities.

- Avoid unnecessary travel, close windows and doors and balconies and terraces

- Remove hanging pots and anything that could fall into the streets.

The Canary Islands Government, in these situations, reports and updates through their Twitter account @112canarias, Facebook of the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Sustainability and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as the website www.gobiernodecanarias.org/dgse.

The AEMET does not say anything about Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Graciosa, but it is still better to take precautions, and it is a good chance to admire the Wind Toys of Cesar Manrique at the various roundabouts, to watch them at work, on the Cesar Manrique Tour!!!!
