The Consortium on Security and Emergencies, Lanzarote has reported that the Directorate General of Security and Emergency of the Canary Islands, based on the prediction of AEMET and other sources available, specific Emergency Plan for Canary at times of unfavorable weather conditions (PEFMA) has been declared as a state of alert for storms and rainfall in the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The activation of the Emergency Plan Lanzarote (Lanzarote Pein) from 12:00 pm today until further notice is underway, whereby appropriate measures to be taken to minimize the damage caused by the weather, so we have suspended all outdoor activities after school today, November 19, 2014. Preactivated groups and intervention of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, security groups, health groups and organized volunteers will be on alert too.
Also, all citizens, businesses and public entities are encouraged to take protective action in anticipation of damage from adverse weather conditions.
Also, the Insular Security and Emergency Consortium announced that these measures would be taken, if weather conditions persist.
In this regard, the Security and Emergency Consortium Lanzarote has some recommendations regarding this situation, multiple pre-alert and emergency phones can be reached on 112 or 080 in case of any incident occurs.
Recommendations to alert the population of Lanzarote
Don’t forget to check the condition of the roofs, drains, and so on. If you live near a ravine, tell your council if saturated waste, debris, etc has accumulated.
If possible, stay home, considering it is not located in channels of gullies or hazardous locations
With the imminent arrival of heavy rains, watch the instructions given by the media.
Never (even in the summertime), camp in flood beds of ravines, etc.
· Avoid driving your car during heavy rains. If necessary, use extreme caution, paying particular attention to the water level, moderate speed and brake monitoring. If the vehicle begins to fill with water, it is best to leave it.
· Circle preferably on major roads or highways, avoiding roads and at moderate speed. Bring the light turning vehicle.
· If you have to cross flooded areas where water has power, tie a rope to your waist, the other end attached to a fixed or heavy object.
· Do not cross those bridges with water above danger level.
· If your home is flooded, avoid toxic and / or flammable substances come into contact with water.
