Coastal Alert

Prevention

  • Protect your home against possible invasion of seawater.
  • Do not stand at the end of docks or piers, it is unsafe to take photos or videos near where the waves break.
  • Avoid fishing in areas at risk.
  • Do not drive vehicles on roads near the beach.
  • Never swim in secluded beaches you do not know enough of.
  • Avoid swimming at beaches or surf around red flag areas where there are strong waves and surf or lack of surveillance and rescue services.
  • Avoid sports and nautical practices in the areas affected by the waves and no camping on the beach when as long as the alert is on.
  • If you notice unusual waves, do not stay near the sea.
  • If you have a boat make sure its docked in a sheltered place.
  • If you see others in dangerous sites warn them of danger.
  • If water seeps in the breaker, call for help and wait to be rescued.
  • If you are dragged by the waves, try to calm down; do not swim upstream. Look for something robust to hold onto. Usually, coastal currents fade in other sections and that is when you should swim.
  • If you are on land and see that someone has fallen in the water, then try to help them with a float, or any other object that can hold. Immediately notify the 1-1-2 or 080.
