Strong Winds
Prevention
- Close doors and windows to prevent debris that may lead to breakage and falling glass.
- Remove pots from balconies and rooftops and all objects that could fall onto the streets.
- Check the housing where there are balconies and facades in poor condition that could fall. It is good to dismantle them immediately.
- Avoid going hiking or camping until the weather is normal.
- Try to postpone road travel and if you have to do, maintain extreme caution. The use of public transport is recommended.
- Motorbikes and large vehicles that offer a large contact area with the wind (trucks, vans, vehicles with trailers or caravans) are in danger of capsizing to crosswinds.
How to act
- Avoid walking in woodlands and gardens.
- Stay away from walls, old houses, scaffoldings, neon signs, billboards and other structures that can be toppled by wind.
- Light poles and electricity towers are dangerous. Stand back and in case of risk alert 1-1-2.
- In case of rick from construction cranes, immediately notify 1-1-2.
- Try to get away from the coast (beaches, boardwalks, piers docks, etc.) to avoid being hit or dragged by waves.
- Ride slowly and cautiously on the road, since gusts of wind could make you lose control of your vehicle, especially when overtaking.
- Avoid electric lines, they may collapse due to strong winds.
