Most of the buildings were built with no proper permissions or the builders just simply ran out of money, and hence had to abandon the buildings altogether.
We have listed a few of the ones we thought stand out:
Costa Teguise Sports Centre :
Costa Teguise Sports Centre is quite big, but unfortunately it is abandoned and just gathering dust. The incomplete project boasts of a Gym, a football ground, tennis court and quite a few other vacant spaces meant for other such sports. There are quite a few abandoned buildings meant for hotels or resorts which lie vacant and waiting to be started in Costa Teguise.
Abandoned Hotel near Los Charcones
The abandoned hotel near Los Charcones is now famously called the Hotel of Los Charcones, but was named Atlante del Sol Hotel, at the edge of Playa Blanca, built sometime in late 1960's or early 1970's. The famous story which makes round is that a German investor started the project to make a “Golf-Hotel” but his attempt to irrigate grass for the Golf Course on the volcanic clay soil didn't work out. The building was abandoned with no concrete road leading to it. It is said that, it will cost more than 1.2 million euros to just get it down. Now of course you will see homeless and drug addicts using the hotel for lodging.
Abandoned Beach Resort Club La Santa
Alongside the very modest Club La Santa lies various circular structures next to the beach. These abandoned structures were beach resort in the making, but for unknown reasons were left undone. All these circular structures have concrete benches, but now they are covered with graffiti. The water alongside the beach is rough, not good for swimming, but ideal for surfing, which is why we think the whole idea of a quite beach resort may have been a flop.
