The Canary Islands is an archipelago with seven main islands, namely Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. It also has small islets namely, La Graciosa, Isla de Lobos or Lobos island, Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Oeste and Roque del Este. All these islands form a chain of islands popularly known as ‘the Fortunate Isles" in ancient times. Most of the islands also are part of UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserve, which means their flora and fauna are protected and looked after.
