The spaces are angled to make them more efficient and pulling in and out simpler, and that section of the avenue now runs one way, towards Las Coloradas.
This is only the start. The same project will add another 35 spaces and a delivery bay on the land behind the church, and a much larger car park of around 300 spaces on the open ground opposite the Princesa Yaiza hotel. Every one of them will be free to use, a welcome thing in a resort centre where parking has long been in short supply through the busy months.
It all forms part of a 2.6 million euro revamp of Avenida Papagayo, which is being carried out in stages and takes in new road surfaces, rebuilt pavements and better access throughout. The work is pressing on over the next few weeks between Maciot and Janubio streets and up towards the Ciudad Jardín roundabout, so anyone driving around that end of Playa Blanca for now should expect a few diversions and delays while it is finished.
