About the Monument
The monument extends into is a multi-purpose house museum called Casa-Museo, where one can go into the past of a typical farmer's house and also features a restaurant on the lower ground floor. It is remarkable to see how the volcanic steps, carefully laid out lead into the house, and a white washed floor and walls, create a beautiful sparkling effect especially in the sun.
The House
Inside the house, you can see two courtyards, with lots of old tools and machinery from the olden times which farmers used for farming. The design of the house was done by Cesar Manrique, but due to his untimely death, Jésus Soto, completed the project in 1968. The materials used are all Eco-friendly like old water tanks and the volcanic rock on which the structure stands.
The Restaurant
If you go underground, the restaurant is pretty looking with lots of old farming tools adorning it. There is a Tapas bar also along with the restaurant, both serving very traditional Canarian cuisine. You can't but notice the greenery inside the restaurant with ferns, palms and more, giving it a fresh and natural feel. To give the authentic Canarian musical touch, there are also performances by local folklore groups.
The Museo del Campesino
Cesar's design is so unique that with greenery there is a waterfall leading to the Handicraft Centre (Centro de Artesania), which features various traditional and local artifacts are displayed from ceramic pottery, baskets, leather products and fabrics woven at looms. A pure delight for anyone who wants to know about the local history.
Monumento el Campesino is an attraction worth visiting and on the Cesar Manrique Tour by Excursions Lanzarote, it is even more better, since you also get to experience all the other works by Cesar Manrique in just one tour, a really great place for a history and culture tour for everyone, even the little ones will love it, especially English Chair used for a Camel ride!!!
