Last month ranks among the hottest Julys on Lanzarote in 65 years, the island having closed it with temperatures approaching 37 degrees, according to AEMET's monthly climate summary. Rain was almost entirely absent.

The month's peak on the island was 36.8 degrees, logged at the Haría cemetery station on 7 July. That was the fifth highest reading across the Canaries in July, behind a top figure of 40.7 degrees recorded at San Nicolás-Tasarte on Gran Canaria.

Nights were warm as well as days. Playa Blanca recorded the island's highest overnight low at 23.3 degrees, and across the Canaries the average July temperature reached 23.5 degrees, running 1.2 degrees above the long-term reference and making it the seventh warmest July since 1961.

Rainfall barely registered. Lanzarote saw just 0.2 litres per square metre all month, falling in the Los Dolores area of Tinajo over the first two days of July, against a Canaries average of 1.7mm.
