Ironman 70.3

Lanzarote, place for sport, held the Ironman 70.3 also known as the Half Triathlon Marathon on 20th September 2014 in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain for the third time. Close to 500 athletes started their race, from Club La Santa with 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run in scorching Lanzarote weather, temperatures running up to 30 degrees, with no winds .

After a false start, the Pros first started the race, after which age-groupers started 3mins later. The swimming race started at the Club La Santa Lagoon, then the very difficult bike race over the Tabayesco climb with the beautiful Lanzarote landscape in the backdrop and three loops of a flat course around the lagoon from Club La Santa into La Santa village.

The race was pretty difficult but exciting according to the participants. Amongst the men, Will Clarke from Great Britain came in First, Victor Del Corral from Spain was Second and Romain Guillaume from France came Third. The top three women were Helle Frederiksen from Denmark, Lucy Gossage from Great Britain and Nicole Woysch from Germany.

The Ironman 70.3 brings together the best athletes from around the world. If one wants to participate in this event, then they need to qualify and train accordingly.
