His first opera “Oberto” debut production was held in Milan at La Scala in 1838. After this he had to go through lot of personal losses, where his two infant children died between 1838 and 1839. His second opera, Un giorno di regno, a comical story did not find many takers. This along with his wife’s death in 1940 left him in the most depressing phase of his life.
He struggled to write anymore, but finally between 1842 and 1843, he saw immense success with his two operas Nabucco and I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata (best known simply as I Lombardi), which made him popular in the Opera fraternity. Between 1940 and 1970 his many works were liked by masses and his reputation grew.
In 1886 he completed Otello, based on William Shakespeare's play Othello garnered incredible acclaim. His last composition was Falstaff (1893), one of the greatest comical opera.
He produced approximately 25 operas in his career span, before he died on January 27, 1901, in Milan, Italy.
To pay tribute to him, a concert called "VERDI GALA", will be devoted entirely to Giuseppe Verdi and his works. Friday, October 10, performance will happen at the Grand Hotel & Spa Arrecife from 21:00 am and will be played by the Philharmonic Ensemble Lyric Veneto (from Italy).
