The journey starts from the capital Arrecife towards the north to the village of Gautiza where one can see one of his first works like the Cactus Garden with a spectacular display of over 10000 cactis from around the world. Next comes the all attractive "badlands", with cones, chimneys, craters, dramatic cliffs of los Hervideros, making sure you fantasize about being on Mars!!!! This part of the archipelago is now a designated Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Here one cannot but appreciate the work done by Cesar Manrique in the form of Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes. Further north on the same path leads to another famous landmarks of Lanzarote, the Mirador del Rio, a monument facing the island of La Graciosa.
Timanfaya National Park comes next boasting of more than 25 volcanic cones between the towns of Tinajo and Yaiza. On your way you will also head to the La Geria vineyards planted in volcanic soil, one can call it is miracle!!! Along the way you can walk through the golden sandy beaches of Playa Blanca, a fishing village, and enjoy some delicious Canarian food while you're there. From Playa Blanca you could either take a one hour ferry to Fuerteventura or you can take a few minutes to stroll along the wild, beautiful and intimate coves of Las Coloradas, Papagayo and Dorada.
Getting around the island is easy with buses, linking many towns. You can also hire a car to save time on logistics. You can also take the Grand Tour which is reliable, a time saver and economical.
