Yesterday, February 18th was the coldest day of this winter in Lanzarote. The cold weather in Lanzarote has also played spoil sport for Carnival Programmes in Teguise and Tinajo.

According to the Meteorological Agency, Tias reached a minimum of 8.7 degrees yesterday at 14:10 hours, with the lowest temperature recorded on the island during the day. It was in the 90s when two degrees were recorded in Masdache.

With the weather so cold, the municipalities of Teguise and Tinajo have decided to suspend the outdoor performances of the Carnival that will take place tomorrow, Saturday, February 20th, in both municipalities. The decision addresses the situation prealert statement issued by the Directorate General of Security and Emergency, based on the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), and other sources available, and under specific Emergency Plan Risk Canarias by unfavorable weather conditions PEFMA (specific Plan of Civil Protection and Emergency of the Canary Islands for Risk and unfavorable weather conditions).

Under this prealert situation both Teguise and Tinajo, have decided to cancel the celebration of Carnival Parade scheduled for this Saturday, as weather forecasts indicate that there will be rain and strong winds during the next 48 hours. On the other hand, however the Teguise traditional carnival celebration scheduled for Friday, from 20.00 pm will go on as scheduled, and will take place in the Municipal Marquee Plaza de La Mareta.
