The festivities include sports, music concerts, entertainment for kids and much more. Especially from 23rd June night to the 24th June also famously known as the midsummer night in Europe or Guy Fawkes night in the UK (but celebrated almost 5 months later in the UK) .
The effigies of ‘El Facundo’ are ceremoniously burnt on bonfires throughout the island, corncobs are roasted, with folkloric music and dance. As part of the celebrations there are bravery attempts by young men by either jumping over the flames or attempting to walk barefoot across the embers of the fire. Another tradition, but a less popular one, is that of the ‘first bathe’, for prior to this day it was always considered bad luck for the locals to bathe in the sea.
No matter how you celebrate these days, you will have lots of fun along with some religious significance to the celebrations. We hope you will join us at the San Juan Festival 2015:
