Whether you are in Lanzarote during Christmas holidays or leaving just before, buying all the Christmas goodies can be a never-ending task. And doing your shopping in the markets is not only cost-effective, but gives you a far better chance of finding the best buys, since you can bargain a lot. Teguise Market is one such market which you must not miss going to.
Highlights of Teguise market:
A visit on a Sunday, Teguise market is bustling with stalls and buyers. A prudent way to know what you are looking for is to have a walk around the village through the entire market.
Must Buys:
You will love the local artisans objects, like a Buddha (or any other figure) drawn on potatoes, and spray painted in black and white or any other colours.
Surf Shops are a good peep
Pashmina scarves (they could cost close to 35 €, but if you bargain well, can get it around 28 € or less) are one of the best gifts you could give it to your mom or sister or female friends, at the Emporium stall. You could also buy any other oriental objects as gifts and souvenirs there.
Wines and Aloe products from the island are especially authentic to Lanzarote and are awesome gift ideas.
You can browse and see what you like, there is a lot to choose from and bargained for.
Must Eats:
If you were in Lanzarote and haven't tried the Canarian food, then you must go back to Teguise market and definitely try the Papas Arrugadas or Wrinkled Potatoes, simply outstanding served with sauces (mojo verde and mojo rojo).
Biotienda the Villa sells eco-friendly products, why not sip on a really tasty and healthy fruit or vegetable smoothie!!!
The famous Canary coffee (It has layers of coffee, condensed milk and liqueur), looks pretty too, can be had in any of the cafes.
Only for winter, you will find roasted chestnuts (there are other nuts too like almonds on the menu), the stall is near the church in the square.
Another popular joint with the islanders is the Palmerita, our advice, just go for a beer .... can be busy.
Couple of other must-go joints are La Cantina and La Bodeguita del Medio.
Also go to the stall where a German chap makes and sells fajitas, you will love them since they are all homemade.
Our advice, starve yourself before you go to the Teguise market, so that you can enjoy a hearty breakfast and a scrumptious lunch. Teguise Market is a popular shopping destination with locals too, so it is always nice to see what they are buying, or get a good and honest advice from them about the stalls.
Also it can be daunting for someone new to stand in the bus queue on a Sunday morning, when you can be picked up from your accommodation and dropped back in an air conditioned bus to the Teguise Market from Puerto del Carmen and Teguise Market from Playa Blanca
