The museum has a traditional Lanzarote taste with thick volcanic rock walls and wooden beams as roofs from ship scrapings. The main attraction however is the barrel-making workshop by Rafael Corujo de Leon. There is also the Wine Tasting Room or El Salon de la Cata where one can have a taste of the wine and have a toast with cheese.
You can continue on the Wine Tasting tour in the famous wine growing region of La Geria. Along the way enjoy breathtaking landscape and places of interest. You can visit the local wineries too along the way called “Bodegas”. La Geria or the wine valley of La Geria is a protected area of Lanzarote and the main wine growing region. This region produces the best wines of Lanzarote especially the Malvasia grape, the oldest known grape variety.
The locals of the island found an ingenious way to cultivate vines on this volcanic and hostile ground. They do this by digging more than 10000 funnel shaped hollows into the thick layers of the volcanic ashes, and plant one vine per hollow, fill them with soil and then pour back the ashed soil or picon over it. Small semi circular walls are built around them to protect them from winds and drying out.
Go for an authentic Wine Tour to La Geria, and don’t forget to pick up a few bottles of authentic Lanzarote wine for your friends and family back home.
