Discover Lanzarote's rise from the volcanic ashes at the Ethnographic Museum Tanit

Museum Tanit captures the original Lanzarote history and traditions in its true sense. It is now an arts center and home to the international folk group Ajei. The museum also has a whole room with exhibits of local sculptor Pancho Lasso, amongst other such artists from Lanzarote.

Attractions:

The Ethnographic Museum Tanit (MET), declared center for Tourism and Cultural Interest, is located in the heart of the island, in the village of San Bartolome, Lanzarote. Casa Ajei is a historic old manor house near the town centre of San Bartolome, another popular tourist destination in Lanzarote.

Upon touring the facilities, you can understand how a volcanic island was windswept, hot and dry, rose from the ashes of the volcano. The place was very cleverly tranformed by tenacious engineering. Exhibits have their deities, their pottery, their crops unique in the world, customs, furniture, dressing rooms and the ancient cisterns to store rainwater scarce, converted into art galleries.

Tanit Museum, housed in the cellars of Lanzarote manor house, has displays of indigenous crops making your visit unforgettable.

The objective of museum is not only to preserve and display the ethnographic heritage, but also develop a wide range of cultural activities and enrich Lanzarote's culture.
