Playa Blanca means "White Beach", and so are it's beaches.
Playa Blanca is a little more sophisticated place, with a Yacht Marina and lots of cafes. This is where you can also take a ferry to Fuerteventura.
La Geria wine valley is a protected area of Lanzarote and the main wine growing region. This region produces the best Malvasia wine of Lanzarote, the oldest known grape variety.
History:
The locals found an ingenious way to cultivate vines on this volcanic and hostile ground. They do this by digging more than 10000 funnel shaped hollows into the thick layers of the volcanic ashes, and plant one vine per hollow, fill them with soil and then pour back the ashed soil or picon over it. Small semi circular walls are built around them to protect them from winds and drying out.
Visiting:
One can visit the many vineyards and also sample and purchase the wines from local winegrowers.
