Church dedicated to the Patron Saint of Genesius

In 1574, When the Church Matriz de San Ginés Obispo was built, it had images of Saint Peter and Saint Ginés, but was flooded and completely rebuilt in 1667. San Ginés or St. Genesius is the Patron Saint of Arrecife and this church is dedicated to him.

The church was founded by a French captain in 1630 in honor of San Ginés de Clermont, and a picture with his image appeared on the shore of Charco de San Gines, an event named after it.

The hermitage became a parish church in 1798 and opened for worshipers in the municipality of Arrecife. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries there were lots of expansions made due to the growing wealth of the Port. A musical organ was installed in 1806 and subsequently a tower, two ships, images and pictures were incorporated.

The church has-been of great historical and architectural interest due to various work of arts by famous artists like Alberto Manrique, with his symbolic modern painting depicting the fountain of life.
