It is one of the sacred places of worship for Lanzarote’s citizens. It was built in 1781, dedicated to the Virgin of Sorrows or volcanoes, because of volcanic eruptions of 1730-1736 and 1824.
Next to the church is a cross that marks the spot where the lava diverted its course and hence the church was built.
